Outrigger Waikiki On The
Beach
|
|
|
Beach and nightlife center of
Waikiki
Bookended by the sand and turquoise water of
Waikiki Beach and world-class shopping, this Oahu
flagship of the Outrigger hotel chain is where
outrigger canoes and catamarans board paying
customers during the day and attract a variety of
visitors after dark for entertainment.
Befitting its status among Outrigger hotels, The
Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach pays close attention
to details. Island-décor guestrooms feature
custom-designed bedspreads, Pikake-scented
toiletries, and bathrobes.
The pool and the surrounding sundeck provide one
option for lazing in the sun, but the beach is only
one step away and the water just beyond. Shops and
travel and car-rental desks offer convenience, while
a pianist graces the upper lobby in the evenings and
koa-wood accents gleam luxuriously.

Information |

What to expect: This Outrigger is set amid
prime beachfront on Kalakaua Avenue. The property
houses five restaurants, a showroom, a fitness
center, an outdoor pool, and several shops. In late
May, the hotel is host to the World Ocean Games
competitions.
Amenity highlights: Off the upper lobby, a
430-seat showroom serves as the permanent residence
of the long-running comedy/musical revue "Society of
Seven." Off the lower lobby, locals and visitors
alike pack Duke's Canoe Club, a popular Waikiki
nightspot. Duke's runs the beachfront-width of the
hotel, and it's always full. Younger patrons crowd
the koa-wood-paneled interior, while older patrons
gravitate to the breezy flagstone terrace, dotted
with tiki torches and spotlights.
Insider tip: All OHANA and Outrigger
hotels in Waikiki offer interchangeable hospitality.
Guests at any hotel are invited to enjoy dining,
entertainment, and facilities at the other
hotels—including the Serenity Spa (health and
beauty) and Cowabunga Kids Club at The Outrigger
Reef on the Beach—while charging to their rooms.
Exceptions are that the pool at this hotel is
reserved for hotel guests and the fitness center at
The Outrigger Reef on the beach is reserved for
hotel guests and for Outrigger Waikiki Shore guests.
Bonus tip: Reasonably priced leis are sold
at the entrance to Duke's Canoe Club (evenings).
There is an extensive variety of blossoms to choose
from, and a local woman strings them right onsite.

The Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach is 16-floor
resort hotel. Reachable by escalator, the enormous
upper lobby offers tranquility one floor above shops

seating set the scene, and a pianist entertains in
the evening. Car-rental and tour desks assist guests
planning visits around Oahu. The lobby's star
attraction is an 111-year-old outrigger canoe
restored to a gleaming finish and displayed against
the backdrop of a huge painting depicting the
Polynesian discovery of Waikiki. Off the lobby, is
the Hawaii International Surfing Museum.

Duke's Canoe Club -
Dedicated to the memory of Duke Paoa
Kahanamoku, Hawaii's celebrated Olympic
swimmer, legendary surfer, movie star, and
goodwill ambassador, this "restaurant &
barefoot bar" is Waikiki's principal "scene"
spot—lively, carefree, and casual. Serving
buffets at breakfast and lunch and à la
carte dinners, Duke's is always hopping,
especially when live Hawaiian musical acts
entertain during happy hour and later at
night against a gleaming backdrop of
polished koa wood.
Sunset Terrace - Ceiling fans and
retro surfing posters encourage a laid-back
attitude when dining here for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner. Facing the ocean, it's
the place for a tropical drink at sunset.
Dinners feature Asian-Pacific seafood
preparations.
|
|
Chuck's Steak House - Dinner-only, this
restaurant serves steaks and seafood and faces
the ocean.
Pai's Health Foods - Located on the
street level, Pai's serves sandwiches, salads,
and other light food.
Outrigger Snack Shop - Located on the
beach, this is where to get fast-food.
Seattle's Best - Located on the street
level, this shop serves espresso drinks, coffee,
tea, and sweets.
